Peoria's First Foreign Trade Zone Approved

The City of Peoria, Ariz. has an aggressive Economic Development Program calling for the attraction of advanced manufacturing industries to create high quality jobs. As part of attracting advanced manufacturers, such as Maxwell Technologies from San Diego, Calif., certain incentives are essential, including a Foreign Trade Zone designation. The City Council approved a resolution, tax policy, Payment in Lieu of Taxes agreement and a non-objection letter for Maxwell Technologies, taking the first step toward granting FTZ status to the City’s leading technology company.

SubZero buys land to expand in Goodyear

Refrigerator and cooking appliance-manufacturer Sub-Zero Inc. has purchased land in Goodyear to expand its already large facility in the city. The Wisconsin-based company paid $2 million for an 11.5-acre parcel next to its 438,501-square-foot manufacturing and distribution operation in the PV303 business park at Interstate 10 and the Loop 303.

Surprise wins “Best of the West” Economic Engine Award

More than 1,000 new jobs and the addition of one-million square feet of industrial space helped the City of Surprise Southwest Railplex development land the 2013 “Best of the West” Economic Engine Award Thursday. “The Southwest Railplex means good jobs for Surprise and also how well the West Valley works together,” said Mayor Wolcott. “Surprise partnered with Westmarc and other West Valley cities to achieve a foreign trade zone designation for this area, a huge first step in attracting top manufacturers.”

Greater Maricopa Foreign Trade Zone Appoints Two New Members to Board of Directors

February 14, 2013 – Peoria, AZ – The Greater Maricopa Foreign Trade Zone (GMFTZ) has appointed two new members and elected new officers to its Board of Directors. GMFTZ, the grantee for the West Valley’s foreign trade zone #277, held their Annual Meeting Tuesday, February 5, 2013 at WESTMARC in Peoria. New Board members include: Diane McCarthy, Director of Business Partnerships and Legislative Affairs for West-MEC, previously served as president of the ASU Alumni Association, and as vice president for University and Community Partnerships in the ASU Foundation. McCarthy was WESTMARC’s founding president and also served in the state legislature and on the Corporation Commission.
